    Content is King!

Coca-Cola recently changed their focus from "marketing" to "content marketing". Essentially, they will be using stories in marketing to create conversation and discussion about their product and then will be listenting and interacting with those discussions. This type of marketing and advertsing is unpresidented in the traditional mega-corporations like Coca-Cola, and is something that small businesses can impliment immediately and participate in daily!

Watch the videos below for a complete layout of their content marketing plan.

Most Liked TV Ads of 2011

The list is out! The most liked television ads of 2011.

Here are the top 5 released by Nielsen

    1. Volkswagen - A boy dressed as Darth Vader believes he used "the force" to turn on a car.
    2. Oreo - Boy wakes up Dad at midnight for a Father's Day treat.
    3. St. Jude's - Shaun White sits with kids who wear wigs like his hair.
    4. Hallmark - Soldier shares holidays with his family through a recorded book.
    5. Real California Milk - Cow tells mom to change her "mom jeans".

This matched up with my own top 5 pretty closely. The Volkswagen ad is bar far one of the best ads I have seen in YEARS! The question is, what makes these ads so great? There are classic advertising methods and themes woven throughout each of them from Emotional Appeal to the Appeal to one's need for a family, to naustalgia, and humor. The winner, VW, has them all. Here are a few of the other ads below:

    Search engines? Facebook? or Twitter?

Where do you go when you want to find information about a local business? Facebook? Twitter? Search engines?

According to the Pew Research Center, most people use search engines (38%) or specialty websites (17%). Only 3% use social media sites (facebook, twitter, etc) to find information about a business. Does this mean that a business should not have a social network presence? Certainly not! Social networks will probably never be used as a static information or conact look up tool. They are a dynamic tool to connect with customers & prospects. However, this study does highlight the importance of search engine optimization and having a professional and well connected website! Here is a report on the study from Mashable: Consumers Not Turning to Social Media Sites for Local Business Info [STUDY]

4 Steps to Selling With Social Media

This is a great article with some awesome suggestions by  on how to "sell" through social media! See an excerpt below:

"Are you wondering why your social media efforts aren’t working?

Social media success sometimes appears arbitrary.

Perhaps you’ve wondered, “Why does company X generate leads and business from their social activity while my company wastes resources on blogs that don’t get read and tweets that go unanswered?”

Social media is so new, sometimes the path to success is unclear and it’s easy to lose your way.

If you want to demystify the experience and improve your ROI (return on investment), you need to make sure that your marketing and campaigns include these four essential components:

    • Attraction: How do you attract qualified leads to your website or business?
    • Retention: How do you stay in contact with people after they’ve left your website or store?
    • Conversion: How do you get people to “buy now” or move further down the sales funnel?
    • Measurement: How do you determine if any of this is working?

By following this model, you’ll be able to ensure that you’ll successfully navigate your way through this untamed wilderness.

What follows is a detailed map you can follow."
